This morning the US Supreme Court returned the question of abortion to the states. As I have said before, personally I am a Catholic and pro-life supporter. I feel that this was the right finding. The question of abortion should be determined by the people’s representatives and not a federal court. Many states will have to make difficult decisions in the months following, and I call on all state legislatures to listen to their constituents. Today is a historic day. As a father who has helped raise five children, I understand that it can be challenging. It shows us that It is imperative now more than ever that we as a Commonwealth support women that are facing challenging decisions. We must improve our state’s adoption agencies; we must help find affordable child care for mothers, we must help address government-induced baby formula shortages, and we must be supportive of those mothers who are going through hard times. Our state motto is “united we stand, divided we fall” today we must unite behind the next generation of Kentuckians and support policies that will improve the standard of life for all.
